Ever stand in front of your easel and ask yourself how do I mix that color? This workshop is based on that very issue. It's difficult enough painting outside with the sun moving the whole time. Making intelligent quick decisions can break or make a painting.
This one day workshop is designed to help artist make educated decisions on how to figure out color mixing using a limited palette. When using colors other than from a limited palette, you will know in what color family it fits in.  Understanding your palette and how it works is one of the most important tools you can learn.

"Plein Air Boot Camp"

Plein Air Boot Camp is a nickname affectionately given to this 5 day workshop by past students. The workshop is based on building solid basic skills for a quick response while painting landscapes on location. Chuck pushes the principles of what he uses while painting on location. It is a great time of the year to get out with few bugs and mild temperatures after a long winter.

This 4 day workshop is based on building solid basic skills for a quick response while painting landscapes on location. Each day will concentrate on a new lesson. The first day will be inside and about color mixing for the landscape. This will be the bases of the workshop. Each days lesson will build on the other.
Chuck will explain the principles of each day using demos, lectures and critiques. The remainder of the day students will get individual instruction. It is also great time of the year to get out with still few bugs and warm mild temperatures.

Join Chuck in beautiful Logan County and Hocking Hills for a three day workshop.
The past Hocking Hills workshops have proven to be quite successful and lots of fun with all the natural beauty.
The workshop is based on building solid basic skills for a quick response while oil painting landscapes on location. Each day will concentrate on a new lesson. Each days lesson will build on the other. Chuck will explain the principles of each day using demos, lectures and critiques. The remainder of the day students will get individual instruction.
Students must be able to hike small distances while carrying their own painting equipment. Locations will be chosen for beauty, interest, close proximity to parking lots and bathrooms. Each day will be a new location.

"Hello Chuck,

Well... it's been almost six months since I attended your September 
workshop and I realized I never really thanked you for your marvelous 
instruction.  THANK YOU!!!!!!  I can't begin to explain how 
motivating our daily treks into the "wilderness" were.  One of my 
most memorable A-HA moments, which remains crystal clear, was the 
steamy morning we were at Caesar's Creek viewing the the scrubby 
shrubs and trees and we were all wondering what on earth you saw to 
paint in that field.  You saw beauty where the rest of us saw weeds; 
you saw light, shape, texture, value and temperature (I was paying 
attention!) and you made a wonderful painting.  A simple lesson found 
in every art instruction book, but your demonstration of those 
principles was so much more powerfully effective.  I think I finally 
get it.
